Discovering Food Freedom: How to Stop Overeating and Regain Control

β€œHow can I stop overeating? Any tips?” It's the most common question I receive through comments and DMs. I completely understand the urgency and desire for a quick solutions. So here, I'll provide you with a concise overview of how to overcome overeating.

Do you find yourself struggling to stop overeating? Are you tired of following strict diets and constantly battling with binge urges? It's time to uncover the real problem behind overeating and discover a solution that will bring you true food freedom.

In this blog post, we will delve into my personal journey of overcoming overeating and how relearning intuitive eating helped me break free from the vicious cycle. Let's explore how you too can put an end to binge and emotional eating once and for all.

Understanding the Real Problem

The journey to stopping overeating begins with understanding the actual problem. It's not about a lack of willpower or discipline. The actual problem lies in being disconnected from your body due to years of dieting and the labeling of food as "good" or "bad."

This mindset creates a harmful relationship with food and perpetuates overeating habits, which then seem extremely hard to break.

The Failure of Strict Diets

After years of attempting stricter or cleaner diets, I finally realised that they were not the solution to my overeating struggles. These diets only reinforced a restrictive mindset and created feelings of guilt and deprivation (which then resulted in increased binge urges, and me losing control - once AGAIN!).

It became clear that a different approach was needed to truly address the underlying issue.

Embracing Intuitive Eating

The breakthrough came when I understood that I had to re-connect with my body.

It meant relearning how to eat based on my body's signals and honoring my hunger and appetite. So intuitive eating was the new goal, no longer the perfect diets.

Because intuitive eating allowed me to eat what I truly wanted without guilt, feel satisfied, and thus naturally stop eating when I was full.

The Root of Overeating

Contrary to popular belief, the problem with overeating is not solely caused by external factors such as a stressful job or following the wrong diets (these can all be reasons why one started overeating, but not reasons why one can’t stop).

The real issue lies in our inability to listen to our bodies understand what, when, and how much we truly want to eat. No external plan or diet can provide the answer unless we reconnect with our bodies.

Embracing Your Journey to Food Freedom

To find the solution and experience true food freedom, we must get back in touch with our bodies. It requires letting go of strict rules and restrictions and learning to trust our inner hunger and fullness cues again. Trusting yourself.

Intuitive eating becomes the guiding principle, helping you to make choices based on your individual needs and preferences.
